From Captain Cook’s early years to the village’s vibrant fishing heritage, your guide will bring the museum’s unique collection to life with objects, anecdotes, and local insight. Each tour begins with a special welcome and an introduction to the museum and our history, and continues with stories and highlights from the collection, including the details you won’t find on the museum labels. What to Expect: - Arrive at the museum at your scheduled time - Be welcomed with a special story about the history of the collection - Enjoy a 30 minute tour through Staithes’ rich history and museum treasures with an experienced member of staff - Benefit from a 10% discount in our museum shop for all members of the tour group. We recommend your group is 5 people or fewer, due to space limitations in the building, but we will do our best to accommodate larger groups. Looking for something different? By request, we’re happy to tailor your tour to focus on one of the following themes: 1. Women in Staithes History – uncover the untold stories of women’s work, lives, and legacies in the village. 2. Captain Cook – explore the early life of Cook in Staithes and the seafaring context that shaped his path. 3. Museums and Curatorship – go behind the scenes with a curator’s-eye view of how we care for, interpret, and display the collection. Planning Your Visit: If you'd like to arrange a tour outside our regular opening hours, please get in touch—we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
