Before your visit, browse our online catalogues and request up to 15 items, books or box files—which will be ready for you when you arrive. You’re welcome to stay and read for as long as you need during our opening hours. Please note: You may copy, photograph, or photocopy a few pages for reference, but this is limited due to copyright restrictions. Cancellation Policy

Introduction Welcome to the Staithes Museum Scanner Usage Area. We are pleased to offer the public the opportunity to scan their personal photos and films using our new Epson Perfection V600 scanner. To ensure the safety and proper use of our equipment, and to protect the interests of all users, please read and adhere to the following policies. Usage Guidelines User Responsibility Users are responsible for scanning their own photos and films. The Museum is not liable for any damage that may occur to photos or films during the scanning process. Safety Procedures In the event of a fire alarm, please promptly leave the museum building, and gather on the other side of the road, by Bethel chapel. If you are unsure about evacuation procedures, ask a fire officer or a security guard for assistance. Personal Belongings Keep your possessions with you at all times. The Museum does not accept responsibility for any lost or stolen items. Computer and Virus Prevention To minimise the risk of computer viruses being transferred to our computer, the use of USB storage devices is strictly prohibited on the Museum's computer. To transfer your photos to yourself, you can use Google Drive, Onedrive, or any other online method that does not require installing any new software on the museum’s computer. Pricing and Refunds The price for using the scanner is £20 per day. You can use the scanner during our opening hours. If the Museum is closed for any reason, or if the scanner is not working, you will receive a refund for that day. In the event of inappropriate behaviour, you will be asked to leave and no refund will be provided. Copyright Compliance Copyright Laws Users must comply with copyright laws when using the scanner. The following activities are not allowed: Scanning whole books or large parts of books. Making multiple copies of scanned materials to share with others. Scanning someone else’s copyrighted photo (e.g. from a newspaper) and republishing it yourself. Fair Use Copying selected pages or a chapter from a book, or an article from a journal for personal educational use, is generally considered Fair Use. Users are limited to making one copy of the material needed for personal use. Accessioning Photos to the Museum's Collection Preservation of Photos Users have the option to accession their scanned photos to the Museum's collection.
