Staithes Museum Bloomberg Connects Audio Guide
Free Bloomberg Connects Audio Guide at Staithes Museum
Staithes Museum’s Bloomberg Connects audio guide is a free way to explore more of the museum on your own phone. It adds extra stories, local voices, and interpretation to the galleries, helping visitors discover more about the collections, Staithes history, Captain Cook, oral history, fishing heritage, village life, and more.

The guide is designed to support different ways of visiting. You can listen as you go, pause whenever you like, and return to sections later. It also helps us share more of our archive and interpretation without overcrowding the museum with extra labels.

What is the Bloomberg Connects audio guide?
Bloomberg Connects is a free museum guide app that lets you explore selected stories, recordings, and interpretation from Staithes Museum on your own phone. The guide is easy to use and can be accessed during your visit by connecting to the museum Wi-Fi and opening the Bloomberg Connects app.

The guide brings together:
-
local voices and oral history recordings
-
extra interpretation for objects and displays
-
stories that do not fit on labels
-
accessible text and audio content
-
a way to explore the museum at your own pace

What can you find in the guide?
The guide includes a range of stories and themes from across Staithes Museum’s collections and local history. Depending on the section, you may find:
-
extra interpretation for museum objects
-
stories connected to Captain Cook and his time in Staithes
-
archive material and oral history extracts
-
local memories and village voices
-
information about Staithes fishing, smuggling, and everyday life
-
context for images, prints, and other displays
This lets us add depth to the museum without changing the atmosphere of the building or removing the important role played by our volunteers as guides and hosts.

Why use the audio guide?
The Bloomberg Connects guide makes the museum more accessible in several ways.

More ways to explore
You can listen rather than read, which is useful if you prefer audio or want extra explanation while you move around the museum.

Helpful for different access needs
The guide can support visitors who benefit from:
-
audio rather than printed text
-
more time to absorb information
-
zoomable images and text on a mobile device
-
a flexible, self-paced visit
-
the ability to pause, replay, and return later

Less crowded displays
Staithes Museum already has a lot of interpretation on display. The audio guide lets us add more context and stories without making the galleries feel cluttered.

More archive material made public
Some of the museum’s oral history and archive material is difficult to share fully on labels. The audio guide helps bring more of that material into public view.

A companion to volunteers, not a replacement
Our volunteers are a central part of the museum experience. The audio guide is there to support your visit, not to replace the people who welcome visitors and share their knowledge.
