Help us keep Staithes Museum free for everyone
Every day, people walk through the doors of Staithes Museum to discover the stories of this remarkable little village.
There is no admission charge.
That matters to us. We want the museum to be somewhere that anyone can visit – whether you're a lifelong resident, a schoolchild on your first visit to a museum, a family on holiday, a researcher following a family connection, or simply someone who has wandered in because the door was open.
But free admission doesn't mean that the museum is free to run.
We are an independent, volunteer-led charity, and we rely on donations, shop income, grants and the time and energy of our volunteers to keep the museum open and our collections in the care of the community.

Your support helps us continue to welcome visitors without charging an admission fee. We believe that local history should be accessible to everyone.

Give children the chance to discover Staithes
We welcome school groups and provide educational resources to help children explore the history of the village. School visits are free, helping teachers bring local history to life outside the classroom.
We also create printable activities, quizzes and other resources so that children and families can explore Staithes for themselves.
Look after the collection
Behind every object on display is work that visitors don't necessarily see: cataloguing, photographing, researching, conserving, storing and caring for the collection.
Our collection tells the story of Staithes and the people who lived and worked here. Donations help us make sure those objects and their stories are cared for for future generations.
Record local memories
Some of the most important stories in the museum aren't written in books. They are the memories of people who have lived, worked and grown up in Staithes.
We record oral histories, research photographs and documents, and add these stories to the museum's growing archive. This helps preserve memories that might otherwise disappear.
Make the museum more accessible
We are continually looking for ways to help more people experience the museum and its stories, including through films, audio, digital interpretation and resources that can be enjoyed by people who cannot easily access every part of our historic building.
Keep discovering new stories
The museum's work doesn't stop at the objects already on display. We are constantly researching the collection, uncovering new information and finding connections between objects, documents, photographs and the people of Staithes.

There isn't just one single thing that happens when you put money into the donation box. It becomes part of the bigger picture that allows the museum to keep doing its work.
Your donation might help us welcome a school group.
It might help us preserve a photograph before it deteriorates.

We're a small museum with a big story to tell
It is an independent museum, run by the Staithes Museum and Heritage Trust with the help of a dedicated team of volunteers.
We don't charge for admission, and we want to keep it that way.
