Finding Staithes Museum
Staithes Museum is on High Street in the lower village, on your right-hand side as you enter the village.
The museum is in the old Primitive Methodist Chapel, a short walk from the harbour.
By car
Staithes is on the A174 coastal road, between Whitby and Saltburn.
There is no general visitor parking in the lower village, so most visitors should head for the car parks at the top of Staithes.
The main council car park is at Bank Top, Staithes Lane, TS13 5AD.
From the car park, follow the signs and walk down into the village. The walk back up is steep.
There are also other car parks at the top of the village, operated by different providers, so please check the signs when you arrive.
It is possible to drive down the bank to drop someone off in the bottom of the village, but it can be tricky - especially at busy times.
Blue Badge parking: There are designated Blue Badge spaces in Staithes, including free parking on the High Street. If you need accessible parking close to the museum, please see our Accessibility page.
By Bus
Staithes is served by the Arriva X4/X4A, which runs along the coast between Middlesbrough, Saltburn, Loftus and Whitby.
The bus stops on the A174 at the road junction for Staithes. From there, it is a walk down into the village.
Bus timetables can change, particularly at weekends and during holidays, so we recommend checking the latest timetable before travelling.
By train
The nearest railway stations are Whitby and Saltburn.
From Whitby, you can continue your journey to Staithes by the X4/X4A bus.
From Saltburn, you can also connect with the X4/X4A towards Staithes.
On foot
Staithes is a great place to arrive on foot.
The Cleveland Way National Trail passes through the area, with walking routes connecting Staithes with the surrounding coast and villages.
The North York Moors National Park lists a 2.5-mile walk from Runswick Bay and an 8-mile walk from Saltburn.
If you're arriving from the car park or bus stop, remember that Staithes is a steep, hilly village. Comfortable shoes are a good idea!
